Students at Licking Heights West celebrated "Right to Read" week with a special visitor - author Dr. John Becker.

 

Dr. Becker discussed his library of 26 books he has written for children and shared video from his field research experiences. He talked about the writing process and told stories based on his adventures - such as how he came to write Mugambi's Journey after making his first trip to Africa while working at the Columbus Zoo. 

 

Dr. Becker is a graduate of The Ohio State University, a former elementary school teacher, college professor at the University of Florida, and administrator at the Columbus Zoo. Now a full-time author, he has also worked for many years in the field of wildlife conservation, so it is of no surprise that wild animals are the central theme of his books.
