LHHS names Waaland varsity football coach
Coach Kelen WaalandLicking Heights High School has named Kelen Waaland as the new varsity football coach, pending approval by the Board of Education on May 21. 

Waaland, a social studies teacher at LHHS and current varsity assistant coach, will succeed Darren Waters. Waters accepted a collegiate coaching job with Otterbein University, after leading the Licking Heights Hornets for 14 years.

“We are pleased to have Coach Waaland at the helm of the Hornets,” said Rita Pendexter, the assistant athletic director, Licking Heights High School. “The experience he has, and the relationships he has developed with staff and players, is important.”

Waaland has been a part of the Licking Heights community for more than 10 years. A 2002 graduate of Tri-Valley High School, he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Ohio State University. He has been an integral part of the coaching staff throughout his time at Licking Heights, serving as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator.

Licking Heights will open the 2019 season with a scrimmage against Big Walnut on Sat., Aug. 17, and will face Westland at their first home game on Fri., Aug. 30. Go Hornets!
