Winter weather protocol at Licking Heights
Winter weather is fast approaching central Ohio and with the change in seasons comes the need to review our winter weather protocol.

Parents, how can you ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for your children?
  • Dress your child for cold weather. Layers are best: sweaters, pants, bright colored winter coats, hats, scarves, socks and boots.
  • Allow extra time to get to the school bus stop. Winter weather can be unpredictable.
  • Instruct your child to stand at least 10 steps away or back from the bus stop. Buses and cars need extra room to stop when there is snow or ice.
  •
When winter weather conditions are extremely adverse, Licking Heights Local Schools administrators evaluate each situation regarding the necessity of a closure or delay. Decisions are typically made by 6 a.m., based on available information. The superintendent is responsible for the final decision, based upon the following:
  • Information on road conditions from the District’s fleet and maintenance manager, local law enforcement and municipal road crews.
  • Amount of accumulated snow and ice and if precipitation is expected to continue throughout the day.
  • Weather predictions and storm timing.
  • Building and parking lot conditions.
  •
We will communicate a closure or delay in a variety of different methods.
  • Monitor your listed phone or email address for school closure/delay messages.
    • Licking Heights Local Schools issues an email and telephone call via SchoolMessenger and posts the notification to the district’s website.
    • Please check your contact information ahead of time. If something is incorrect or outdated, contact your building secretary orlog into your OneView parent portal to submit changes. Allow for 48 hours for the changes to be integrated into the database.
  • Check the district websiteFacebook, Twitter for up-to-the-minute information.
  • Follow local media outlets for weather forecasts and school closure/delay updates.
  • Sincerely,
    Philip Wagner
    Superintendent
