High school teachers Donna Chamberlain and Caitlin Roney, as well as middle school technology teacher Patricia Burkett, were recognized for their participation in the 2017 Summer Teacher Externship (STEP) program.
An externship invites an educator to STEP into the business world to gain first-hand knowledge of business operations for the purpose of incorporating workplace competencies into the classroom setting. The program, originated by the Licking County Educational Service Center, has been helping teachers identify relationships between the workplace experience and their classroom since 2014.
Teachers are able to review hiring and business practices at area companies, while creating lessons plans that reflect Ohio’s career development key topics and nurturing school-to-career relationships between businesses and schools. Area businesses receive valuable insights from teachers, develop business education and literacy, and improve the preparation of entry-level workers through modified curriculum and relevant learning experiences.
