Now Accepting Donations for 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip

The eighth-grade class at Licking Heights Middle School is currently accepting donations of any amount for their annual Washington, D.C. trip. The trip is scheduled for April 25-28 and costs $813.00 per student.

In an eighth-grade class of about 340 students, usually only 180 can afford the trip. This year, trip coordinator and middle school art teacher Amber Dorsey says her goal is to get as many students on the trip as possible, regardless of financial abilities.

Dorsey has been the district’s Washington, D.C. trip coordinator since 2005.

“Our goal is to strengthen students' knowledge, respect, pride and honor for our country.  We are building our next generation of citizens and trying to prepare them for the workforce,” she says. “This trip provides an incredible opportunity for our eighth graders as they will be able to immerse themselves in the history they’ve only ever read about.”
