Licking Heights Local Schools instructor Kathy Gamertsfelder has been honored with a 2022 Leaders for Learning Award by the Licking County Foundation (LCF).

Gamertsfelder, who is a math teacher currently specializing in Honors Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus at Licking Heights High School, has been teaching for 22 years.

High School Principal Angel King nominated Gamertsfelder for the award, citing her as “an inspiring and dedicated educator who has been enriching the minds of our students at Licking Heights Schools for over two decades as an exceptional math teacher.”

Among Gamertsfelder’s many accomplishments and areas of service to the Licking Heights community, King especially focused on her roles as math department chair, her mentorship for new educators and her coordination of team nights to support student-athletes with their studies.

In particular, King praised Gamertsfelder’s effective teaching style, writing, “She continues to challenge her students academically and encourages them to strive for success both in the classroom and in their future endeavors…Kathy’s ability to engage students encourages even the most reluctant student to participate and love mathematics. [She] is the teacher that you would want for your own child and her impact on the students in our community is like no other.”

The LCF created the Leaders for Learning Award in 1993 to promote excellence in public education and to honor exemplary teachers in Licking County, according to the LCF website.

The goals of the program are to “identify and recognize teachers who exemplify excellence in teaching; to provide opportunities for teachers to participate in professional growth activities, and to support their classroom activities, and to encourage teachers from the participating districts to join together to enhance the quality of education in the community.”
